DeSales Service Works, DSW, is a ministry of the Oblates that invites people to join us in service, prayer, community, and Salesian presence in the Camden, N.J., the second poorest city in the U.S. in the richest state. DSW particularly focuses on sharing the spiritual insight of St. Francis de Sales with the people of Camden through direct personal service and the advancement of peace and justice.
There are two ways to participate in DeSales Service Works:
I. Volunteer Year
College-aged volunteers give a year of service—working, praying and living at the DSW House in Camden, in the Holy Name neighborhood, just north of the Ben Franklin Bridge.

II. Salesian Service Retreats
Groups of college, high school, and various parish groups serve with DSW for weekends or pre-scheduled periods of time (long weekends, alternative spring breaks, Holy Weeks, Christmas vacations, or summer service trips, etc.).
All volunteers do much-needed, practical service in a very poor community. The DSW experience fosters the Christian worldview of St. Francis de Sales and brings the power of Salesian gentleness, humility, and optimism to a very poor, hard-edged city.
