How long have you considered a religious vocation?
I've considered a religious vocation off and on since high school.
What led to your decision to enter the Oblates? How did you know that it was time to enter?
I'm not sure what it was exactly that made me want to finally join the Oblates, but I know that I came to the realization that I was pushing my vocation away and decided to just go for it. It was time because there was no better time.
What do you like most about the Church?
There are certainly things about the Church as an institution that trouble me, but what excites me about the Church is that at its heart, it's all about love, and if taken seriously, it can move mountains.
What was your biggest surprise in entering the seminary?
The number of people who were interested in hearing about my decision was somewhat surprising and certainly encouraging. Friends who were not religious still were interested to know about my decision and asked that I keep in touch about how formation is going.
What is your favorite book and why?
My favorite book is usually the last one I've read.
Favorite movie and why?
My favorite movie is Ingmar Bergman's film adaptation of Mozart's "The Magic Flute" titled the same. Its layers of stories are so intricate that even the audience and actors playing the roles seem to have a back story, even though they themselves are not given any lines. Some other of my favorite films include ones by Christopher Nolan, Werner Herzog, Woody Allen, The Marx Brothers, and Frank Capra.
What do you do in your free time?
In my free time, I like to read, write, play music, visit friends, and watch movies.
What kind of music do you listen to?
I love a variety of music including rock, blues, folk, classical, and opera.
