Where did you first encounter the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales?

Sunday Mass at St. Jerome Parish in Philadelphia, but I really got to know them as a student at Father Judge High School in Philadelphia.

What experience of the Oblates led you to join the community?

I always wanted to be a teacher and experiencing the teaching and caring of the Oblate Priests and Brothers in high school was a powerful call to me to become part of their wonderful work.

In your experience, what makes the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales distinct?

We are common, down-to-earth men who minister to the everyday person. All are called to holiness and we embody this belief in bringing Salesian spirituality to everyone everywhere.

In ten words or less, how would you sum up Salesian spirituality?

The good in others is apparent or it can be found; we only need to look.

Why should someone consider becoming an Oblate of St. Francis de Sales today?

The gentleness of our spirituality is a vital part of God’s healing of our violent world. Many men feel the call to do this, but don’t know how. I believe that the Oblates can show them how.

Who is your favorite historical figure? Why do you admire him/her?

The Life of St. Peter speaks to me. He did great things in his life, not because he was smart, wealthy, or privileged. His greatness came from his simple and honest faith. He allowed God’s grace in him to do great things and the world will always be blessed because of it.

What are some of your interests/hobbies?

I love reading sci-fi, fantasy. I enjoy my dogs, and they make every day brighter and lighter. I find the relationship between reason and faith fascinating, especially the connection between sci and faith. Baseball is my favorite sport, especially the Phillies.
