Ignite the Night
Oblate Fathers, Brothers, and Sisters celebrated Nativity Preparatory School of Wilmington's Gala this past weekend. Ignite the Night is an annual gala that celebrates and raises funds for the school, helping to continue its mission (see below). This year, Nativity honored Fr. Richard DeLillio, OSFS, President Emeritus of Nativity Prep school, and his instrumental role in its founding. Two students gave speeches reflecting on their experience at the school and how the community had made such a positive difference in their lives. Eighth grader, Raleir Tate reflected: “I have learned, experienced, and accomplished so much during my time at Nativity…This school has granted me a sense of belonging and brotherhood, built on the pillars of our pledge. Every single day, we practice integrity, pride, community, respect, dignity, and responsibility…” Read Raleir’s full speech here.
In a reflection written by Fr. DeLillio entitled “The Early Days of Nativity Prep: From Swimming Pool to Basketball Court,” he shares some of the challenges of the early days of Nativity Prep that presented an opportunity for creativity and growth. He reflection on how the early days of the school laid the foundation for a thriving community—one that still carries the same determination, creativity, and joy as it did from the start.
