In Memoriam: Bro. Thomas P. Brophy, OSFS

Bro. Thomas P. Brophy, OSFS, professed member of the Wilmington-Philadelphia Province of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales for 59 years, died unexpectedly on the evening of December 18, 2018.

Brother Tom was born on December 4, 1936, in Niagara Falls, New York, the son of the late Thomas P. and Helen (O’Keefe) Brophy. He attended St. Mary’s Parish School and graduated from Bishop Duffy High School in 1956. He entered

the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales in 1957, made first profession of vows on January 29, 1959 and made perpetual profession on January 31, 1965.

Bro. Tom served on the staff of Northeast Catholic High School and Father Judge High School (Philadelphia, PA), Bishop McDevitt High School (Harrisburg, PA), Salesianum School (Wilmington, DE) and De Sales Hall School of Theology (Hyattsville, MD/Washington, DC). Brother also ministered in local Oblate communities at Villa Maria Retreat House (Wernersville, PA), Belvedere Plantation (Rising Sun, MD), De Sales House (Chestnut Hill, PA) and De Sales Centre (Childs, MD). Bro. Tom retired from active ministry in 2007.
