Salesian Perspectives on Living in Challenging Times
St. Francis de Sales famously reminds us that we are called to be who we are and be that well. But his simple words are easier said than done! How can we find the inner strength to remain upbeat, joy-filled, and optimistic in the trying, polarizing times in which we live? From the pressures of work and family to the busyness and frantic pace of our rapidly changing world, there are plenty of challenges to go around for young people, older folks, and everyone in between.
The spirituality developed by St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal is nothing if not practical, crafted for everyday, ordinary people with both feet planted firmly in the real world dealing with real problems. And though times change, Salesian Spirituality offers the same path today that it did to Christian pilgrims 400 years ago: rooting our lives in God each day, and little by little, learning to trust in His mercy and love. No one gets there all at once! But it begins by remembering that God is present with us in every moment, ready to change our hearts, slowly but surely. As St. Francis de Sales wrote, Blessed are the hearts that bend, for they shall never be broken.
The program will be drawn from the perspectives of both Oblate and family life, with opportunities for participants to reflect and to share their own experiences, questions, and challenges they have faced along the way.
