Rev. John A. Lindsay, OSFS (1942-2023)

Rev. John A. Lindsay, OSFS, 81, died Wednesday, October 25, 2023, in Schoellkopf Nursing Home in Niagara Falls, NY. Born in Niagara Falls on September 27, 1942, he was the son of the late Arthur W. and C. Loraine (Cowley) Lindsay.

In 1960 he entered the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales after graduating from Bishop Duffy, H.S. in Niagara Falls, NY. He made his First Profession in 1962. He graduated from Niagara University with a BA in English and received a Master of Theology degree from the Oblate School of Theology in Washington, D.C. He was ordained a priest at Prince of Peace Church in Niagara Falls, NY September 12, 1970.

Fr. Lindsay spent most of his ministry in teaching at Bishop Duffy H.S., Niagara Catholic H.S., St. Francis de Sales H.S in Toledo, Ohio, Modesto Catholic H.S. in Modesto, CA & St. Mary’s H.S. in Stockton, CA. He also served in parishes in the Stockton area.

He is survived by his brother Rev. Stewart M. Lindsay, OSFS, and his sister-in-law Sharon (late Peter Lindsay) (Donald) Nitsche and his niece Kathryn (Richard) Kraft and their children Peter, Henry, Owen & Charlotte, and several cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Peter and niece Elizabeth. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, October 31st at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph Parish, St. Joseph Church site, at 11:30 am with Very Rev. Joseph Newman, OSFS, Provincial officiating. There will be a wake before, at the church, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to the Oblate Missions c/o the Oblate Provincial Residence P.O Box 2868 Toledo, Ohio, 43606.
