Dr. Tony Alleyne Named President of Nativity Prep

The Oblates of St Francis de Sales founded Nativity Preparatory School of Wilmington in 2003.

The Nativity Preparatory School of Wilmington Board of Trustees is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Tony Alleyne as the next President of Nativity Prep, effective January 5, 2026. Dr. Alleyne is a nationally recognized educator and nonprofit leader with more than 20 years of experience in independent schools, international education, and nonprofit executive leadership. He brings a distinguished track record of building student-centered programs, strengthening institutional culture, and expanding opportunity for first-generation, underrepresented populations.

Dr. Tony Alleyne

“Dr. Alleyne brings a rare combination of educational excellence, visionary non-profit leadership, and deep care for young people,” said Pat Blewett, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “His experience, values, and commitment to forming the whole child make him the right leader to lead Nativity Prep forward with clarity, urgency, and a deep sense of responsibility to our students and their families.”

Dr. Alleyne currently serves as the Founder and Executive Director of Delaware College Scholars (DCS), a statewide college-access nonprofit serving more than 600 first-generation students. Across his years of leadership, he built DCS from inception into one of Delaware’s most effective pathways programs, raising more than $10 million, managing a $1.2M organizational budget, and developing a comprehensive academic and leadership curriculum. Under his direction, DCS also expanded its model to Charlotte, North Carolina, launching Queen City Scholars to serve a new region of students with the same high-impact residential programming and year-round college guidance.

Before founding DCS, Dr. Alleyne spent a decade at St. Andrew’s School in Middletown, Delaware, where he served as a full boarding school “triple threat” - history teacher, coach, dorm parent, college counselor, and senior admissions administrator - eventually rising to Senior Associate and Interim Director of Admissions. At St. Andrew’s, he strengthened student life, expanded enrollment pipelines, advanced school priorities, and helped grow the school’s regional and international reach.

Dr. Alleyne began his educational career in the classroom through Teach For America in Charlotte, North Carolina, teaching middle school social studies and solidifying his lifelong commitment to equity, access, and instructional excellence.

He also brings international educational experience, having lived and worked in Shanghai as a college counseling consultant and professional development facilitator for educators navigating U.S. admissions pathways.

His leadership has been recognized with many national and regional honors, including the PepsiCo/Doritos Solid Black Black Changemaker Award, Black Voices for Black Justice Award, Teach For America Jack Markell Leadership Award, Teachers College Early Career Award, UPenn GSE Early Career Award, and Delaware Business Times 40 Under 40, among others.

Dr. Alleyne holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. from Columbia University’s Klingenstein Center, and dual B.A. degrees from Wesleyan University.

A Message from Dr. Alleyne

“I am profoundly honored to join Nativity Prep as its next President. From my very first conversations with students, staff, and trustees, I felt an unmistakable connection to the school’s mission. Nativity’s belief in the dignity, brilliance, and potential of young men - especially those from communities like the one I grew up in - aligns perfectly with my own values and life’s work.”

A Message from Rev. Jack Kolodziej, OSFS, Provincial, Wilmington-Philadelphia Province

“The Oblates of St. Francis de Sales are proud of the good things and great work done every day by the faculty and staff at Nativity Prep. We are thankful that Dr. Alleyne will be leading this team and building upon the school’s rich legacy,

About Nativity Prep of Wilmington

Nativity Preparatory School of Wilmington is a tuition-free, Catholic middle school for boys, founded by the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales.  Guided by the example of the gentleman saint, Nativity strives to educate students, regardless of faith, to maximize their potential.  Nativity empowers them to earn acceptance and achieve success in a college preparatory school through a rigorous, holistic education.  In its 21 years of educating young men of Wilmington, graduates have matriculated to twenty-one (27) high schools in the region, boasting a 95% graduation rate from those schools.  Nativity graduates succeed academically, athletically, and socially due to the foundation they received at Nativity Prep.  The school is a Nativity Miguel Model school, with an extended-day, extended-year model, providing holistic support for the students.

The Board of Trustees and Interim President, Brendan Kennealey, are working closely with Dr. Alleyne to ensure a thoughtful and well-planned leadership transition. Nativity’s mission, programs, and commitment to students and families remain unchanged. Dr. Alleyne will assume full responsibility for leading the school beginning on January 5, 2026, with a clear focus on stability, continuity, and community.

Since its founding in 2003, Nativity Prep has educated young men in the example of our patron, St. Francis de Sales. In welcoming Dr. Alleyne, we move that mission forward—deepening our work so that each of our students and graduates can “be who they are and be that well.”
