AN INVITATION TO JOYFUL OPTIMISM
NOVEMBER 4-8, 2019
Wellspring, Fransalian Center for Spirituality
Please join us for our inaugural event, An Evening with the Oblates. This gala formally known as Black Tie for White Collars, will be held at the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, DE and will feature dinner prepared by acclaimed chef, TV and radio personality, Fr. Leo Patalinghug, followed by dancing with the Midnight Hour band. All proceeds from the night go to advance the mission of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales.
St. Francis de Sales is noted for the importance of love in his writings, but humility may have been his favorite virtue. Humility is rooted in gratitude to God for all that we have and are. If the title of this feast doesn’t take each of us aback, it should. Imagine a feast day called “The Exaltation of the Holy Gallows” or “The Exaltation of the Holy Electric Chair.”
As soon as he entered the room, Rosamae shouted out her question: “Why does God wait so long before he gives you what he promised?” Rosamae is Silverside Manor’s resident scholar.
In addition to receiving the gift of Jesus in Holy Communion, we are also expressing our identity: We are the body of Christ. St. Paul (1 Cor 12:27) affirms this along with the great tradition of our church: We become what we celebrate. I remember, from my earliest days in Catholic school when we first learned…
